The Jann and Ray Allen Boonville Middle School Library Fund
Growing up in Boonville and attending Ella Williams school in the building which now serves as the Warrick County Museum, Jann Wasson Allen began her education and established her roots in Warrick County. Jann then went on to earn a degree in Secondary English Education while she and Ray Allen attended Purdue University. Jann and Ray married and returned home to Warrick County where Ray began farming and Jann began her teaching career. They later had two children, Neal and Jessica. Before her retirement, Jann taught for eighteen years at Boonville Middle School. With her free time, Jann enjoys volunteering at the Boonville Middle School Library and substituting for Anne Rust, the school’s librarian and close friend. Even though Jann does a lot to better the school’s library by helping with the book fairs, substituting, and coming in during the early hours of the morning to help catalog new books she still had the desire to do more.
As a volunteer board member of the Warrick County Community Foundation, Jann knew the power of endowment to create a lasting financial resource. Understanding the value of a proper education and discussing options with her husband, Ray, the two decided to establish The Jann and Ray Allen Boonville Middle School Library Fund with the Warrick County Community Foundation. This fund will benefit many students by providing an annual gift to purchase books, or needed equipment that will upgrade the materials and technology used in the library.
“I know I’m prejudiced, but the Boonville Middle School Library is the best in Warrick County,” explained Jann. “With the recent cutbacks in state education, the library struggles to keep its’ collection updated each year. So when my husband Ray and I were deciding how and where to start an endowment to help our community, the library was a natural fit for us.” For decades to come, The Jann and Ray Allen Boonville Middle School Library Fund will serve as a permanent financial resource to provide income for the purchase of library materials to support the student’s educational opportunities and achievements.
The Warrick County Community Foundation holds a variety of funds that serve charitable purposes. Each can be added to at any time, for any reason. If you have a love for literature and books and would like to benefit students attending Boonville Middle School, you may make a charitable gift to the new Jann and Ray Allen Boonville Middle School Library Fund.
